Birmingham Phoenix clashed with London Spirit in the last league stage match of The Hundred Women’s Competition 2023 at Edgbaston. The match saw London Spirit register a comprehensive 73-run victory over the Birmingham-based side.

Toss and London Spirit’s innings:

Asked to bat first, London Spirit put up a mammoth total of 172/5. The standout performance for Spirits came from Grace Harris, who played a scintillating knock of 87 runs off 47 balls, including thirteen fours and two sixes. Richa Ghosh also contributed significantly with 29 runs off 17 balls, aided by three fours and one maximum. The bowling effort from Birmingham Phoenix was spearheaded by Charis Pavely and Katie Levick, each claiming a wicket and conceding 29 runs.

Birmingham Phoenix’s innings:

In reply, Birmingham Phoenix faced a tough challenge from London Spirit’s bowlers. Sterre Kalis showcased some resistance with a quick 28 runs off 16 balls, supported by Amy Jones, who scored 14 runs off 14 balls. However, the London Spirit bowlers kept applying pressure, with Melie Kerr standing out and bagging an impressive 4-fer for 13 runs. Sarah Glenn also claimed two scalps for her team and Birmingham Phoenix was eventually bowled out for 99 runs.

Harris’s outstanding batting display earned her the well-deserved ‘Player of the Match’ award.

The closure of the match between Birmingham Phoenix and London Spirit also marked the end of The Hundred Women 2023 league stage. It is worth mentioning that both teams have failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Birmingham Phoenix went winless and finished last on the points tally of the event, while London Spirit ended their campaign on the sixth position.

The Eliminator of the tournament will be played on August 26 between Northern Superchargers and Welsh Fire, with the winner battling against Southern Brave in the championship battle on August 27.
