The second T20I of the Women’s Ashes 2023 between England and Australia at Kennington Oval proved to be a nail-biting affair where the hosts managed to grab a thrilling 3-run victory.

Put in to bat, England got off to a solid start with Sophia Dunkley and Danielle Wyatt setting the tone. Wyatt played a brilliant innings, scoring 76 runs off just 46 deliveries, including 13 fours. Dunkley contributed 23 runs to the total, while Natalie Sciver chipped in with a quickfire 23 runs off 18 balls. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, England managed to post a challenging total of 186/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

For Australia, Annabel Sutherland was the pick of the bowlers, claiming three wickets for 28 runs in her four overs. Ashleigh Gardner and Darcie Brown also made valuable contributions, picking up two wickets each.

In response, the tourists began their innings strongly, with skipper Alyssa Healy leading the charge. Ellyse Perry, however, was a standout performer, smashing 51 runs off 27 balls, including five fours and two sixes.

However, regular wickets halted Australia’s progress, and despite some late fireworks from Sutherland (20 runs off 12 balls) and Georgia Wareham (19 runs off 11 balls), they fell just three runs short of the target. England’s bowling unit put up a disciplined performance, with Sarah Glenn and Sophie Ecclestone claiming two wickets each. Lauren Bell and Charlie Dean also contributed with a scalp apiece.
