In the ongoing one-off Women’s Ashes Test in Nottingham, England’s debutant, Lauren Filer, ignited hopes for the hosts by claiming two crucial wickets against Australia on Day 4. With a fantastic display of bowling, Filer got rid of Ellyse Perry and Tahlia McGrath within a span of two overs, leaving the visitors in a precarious position.

Heading into lunch on Sunday, Australia stood at 157/3 with a lead of 167 runs. However, Filer’s breakthroughs injected a sense of optimism into the English camp. Filer, who had previously claimed Perry’s wicket in the first innings just shy of a century, continued her impressive performance by outfoxing the Australian star, resulting in her dismissal for 25.

Filer’s impact didn’t stop there, as she went on to showcase her skills against Tahlia McGrath. It all happened in the 46th over when Filer delivered a fuller length ball that sharply seamed back into the South Australian. McGrath attempted to flick it across but was late on her shot. Unfortunately for her, the ball deflected off her front pad and crashed into the stumps, sending her back to the pavilion.

Earlier on Day 3 of the highly anticipated one-off Ashes Test, Tammy Beaumont showcased her impeccable technique and unwavering focus as she systematically dismantled the Australian bowling attack.

She also etched her name in the annals of cricket history by becoming the first English woman and the eighth overall to achieve a double century. Beaumont’s remarkable innings of 208, which spanned 331 balls and 498 minutes, not only showcased her immense talent but also propelled England within a mere 10 runs of Australia’s first-innings score of 473.
