England have announced their playing XI for the only Women’s Ashes Test 2023 against Australia scheduled at Trent Bridge on Thursday (June 22). Western Storm‘s young seamer Lauren Filer will be making her debut for the senior England team and has been selected ahead of 21-year-old Issy Wong by the English management. Danielle Wyatt earned her maiden Test cap as well.
It is worth mentioning that Filer’s selection ahead of Wong came after her impressive performances during the summer of 2023. She took five wickets in the Charlotte Edwards Cup and eight wickets in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy this year. Known for her ability to swing the ball away from right-handed batters, Filer can prove to be a great addition to the English line-up.
On the other hand, other notable selections include Tammy Beaumont and Emma Lambas as opening batters, with skipper Heather Knight at no.3. Meanwhile, veteran batting all-rounders Nat Sciver-Brunt, Sophia Dunkley and wicketkeeper-batter Amy Jones made it to the playing eleven of England as well.
Among bowlers, England went with just one spinner in the form of experienced Sophie Ecclestone, while the seam attack features Kate Cross and Lauren Bell.
