The England Women’s team has revealed their selection of 15 players for the upcoming Ashes Test match. Heather Knight has been named the captain, with Natalie Sciver-Brunt serving as her deputy for the solitary Test match scheduled to take place at Trent Bridge from June 22 to 26.
This particular Test match holds historical significance as it will be the first-ever five-day Women’s Test match. The multi-format series will commence with the longest format of the game, followed by three T20 internationals from July 1 to 8 and three one-day internationals scheduled from July 12 to 18.
Australia currently holds the Ashes, having emerged victorious in the last series with a scoreline of 12-4. They have won three out of the last four series, with England’s most recent triumph dating back to 2014.
For those unfamiliar with the points system in this multi-format series, the winners of the Test match will earn four points, while a victory in any of the six white-ball matches will grant the victorious team two points.
Danielle Gibson and Lauren Filer, who both play for the Western Storm, will experience international cricket for the first time after being called up to the Test squad. Additionally, Alice Capsey is another player who may make her Test debut.
The retirement of Katherine Sciver-Brunt will be a significant loss for the team, as she recently announced her retirement from all formats. In her absence, Kate Cross could take up the responsibility of leading a young and enthusiastic pace attack alongside players such as Lauren Bell and Issy Wong.
