The Fairbreak Global Women’s T20 2023 witnessed a double header on Sunday, April 09 at Kowloon Cricket Club in Hong Kong where South Coast Sapphires met Tornadoes in the first game while Barmy Army faced Warriors in the second fixture.
The South Coast Sapphires secured a convincing victory in Match 10 of the T20 tournament. Put in to bat, the Sapphires posted a total of 95 runs for the loss of two wickets in just 7 overs. Katherine Brunt was the top scorer for the side with 35 runs off 16 balls, which included three sixes. Tash Farrant also played a crucial knock of 36 runs off 18 balls, featuring two sixes. Diana Baig was the most successful bowler for the Tornadoes with two wickets, conceding 23 runs in two overs.
Chasing 96, the Tornadoes struggled to build momentum and eventually managed to reach only 59/5, losing the match by 36 runs. Sune Luus was the highest scorer for the Tornadoes, with 13 runs off 6 balls. The South Coast Sapphires Women’s bowling was disciplined and effective, with Tash Farrant taking three wickets for just 11 runs in two overs.
In the second fixture, Barmy Army went on to post 163/6 in their 20 over after being asked to bat. Deandra Dottin was the star of the innings with her brilliant knock of 69 runs off 48 balls, including 3 fours and 7 sixes. Rumana Ahmed chipped in with her with 36 runs off 28 balls.
In reply, Warriors Women had a tough start, losing early wickets, but Hayley Matthews tried to keep the team’s hopes alive with a quick 28 runs off 18 balls, including 3 sixes. Kathryn Bryce contributed with 45 runs off just 26 balls, but they couldn’t chase down the target and were all out for 146 runs in 20 overs as Barmy Army won the match by 17 runs.
