The Brabourne Stadium in Navi Mumbai witnessed an exciting encounter between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 on Monday.

Opting to bat first, RCB kept losing wickets at regular intervals and got bundled out for 155 in 18.4 overs. Captain Smriti Mandhana yet again failed to impress, scoring 23 off 17 balls. Wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh, with 28 off 26, including 3 fours and a six, was the highest scorer for the Challengers.

Hayley Matthews was the star with the ball for Mumbai, finishing with figures of 4-0-28-3, while Saika Ishaque picked up two wickets for 26 runs.

In response, Mumbai Indians, after losing Yastika Bhatia (23), didn’t look back, with Hayley and Nat Sciver-Brunt taking the attack to the opposition. The duo put on a massive 114-run partnership for the second wicket, with Hayley smashing a brilliant unbeaten 77 off just 38 balls, including 13 fours and one six.

Nat Sciver also scored an undefeated 55 off 29 deliveries, which included nine fours and one maximum. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai chased down the target comfortably in just 14.2 overs, winning the match by nine wickets.
