The much-awaited Women’s Premier League (WPL) began on March 4 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, with a grand opening ceremony. The star-studded ceremony witnessed Bollywood Divas Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon, along with popular musician AP Dhillon, who all came up with exhilarating performances.

Just after the ceremony, all five captains got together and unveiled the prestigious trophy of the first-ever 20-over showpiece event. Five teams, namely Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Giants, UP Warriorz, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore, will be competing with each other to clinch the coveted title.

Speaking of the tournament, Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians will be facing Beth Mooney-led Gujarat Giants in the opening game. Captains of both sides expressed their excitement at the toss. Notably, the Giants won the toss and opted to bowl first.

“It’s a special day for all of us, want to enjoy this moment. This is a good wicket to bat on, but there will be something in it for the bowlers as well. We have some young players who’ll be featuring today, and we’re looking forward to seeing how they play,” said MI skipper Harmanpreet at the toss.

“Absolutely thrilled to be part of (WPL), a big crowd, and I’m loving it. We have an entertaining group, we speak a lot about cricket. We have had the experience of playing in front of a big crowd, we can pass it on to the younger members,” said Gujarat skipper Mooney.
