Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof has resigned from her position but will continue to represent the team, confirmed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi on Wednesday.

Sethi, in a tweet, wrote that he has accepted Bismah’s resignation, stating that the cricketer wants to make way for her younger colleagues. The PCB chief added that Bismah would remain available as a regular player for Pakistan and ‘bring laurels for her country’.

“I have accepted resignation of @maroof_bismah Captain of Pakistan Women’s National Team. She wants to make way for a younger colleague. But happily, she will continue to play for Pakistan and bring laurels for her country,” wrote Sethi on Twitter.

Notably, under the leadership of Bismah, Pakistan’s women’s team won 27 out of 62 T20Is and lost 32 games. When it comes to ODIs, Bismah led Pakistan in 34 matches, out of which the Women in Green won 16 fixtures.

In fact, Bismah has represented Pakistan in an all-rounder capacity, batting left-handed and bowling right-arm leg spin. In June 2022, the Lahore-born cricketer became the highest run-scorer for the Pakistani women’s team in both ODI and T20I formats.

In her 17-year-long illustrious career so far, Bismah has scored 3110 runs in 124 ODIs, at an average of 30.19 with the help of 18 half-centuries. She has also taken 44 wickets at an economy of 4.01 with 4/7 being her best performance. Similarly, in the shortest format, the star cricketer has scored 2658 runs in 132 games at an average of 27.12, including 12 fifties. She took 36 T20I wickets at an economy of 5.62 with the best figures of 3/21.
