The 6th match of the ongoing Women’s T20I Tri-series took place at Buffalo Park in East London, with India taking on West Indies. The Women in Blue easily won the contest by eight wickets and booked the final on Thursday against hosts South Africa.

After opting to bowl first, India’s bowling attack was just outstanding, led by Deepti Sharma, who picked up three wickets for just 11 runs. Similarly, Pooja Vastrakar bagged a couple of scalps for 19 runs.

The West Indies batting lineup struggled quite a lot and only managed to score 94/6 in their 20 overs. Captain Hayley Matthews was the top scorer for the team with 34 runs off 34 deliveries, including 5 boundaries. Zaida James also chipped in with 21 runs off 31 deliveries, hitting 2 sixes.

India then easily chased down the target of 95, completing the target in just 13.5 overs, losing only 2 wickets in the process. Star batter Jemimah Rodrigues was the top scorer for India Women with an unbeaten 42 runs off 39 deliveries, including 5 fours. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur also made a significant contribution with 32 runs off 23 deliveries, smashing 4 fours. Deepti was named the Player of the Match for her remarkable bowling exhibition.

“They have faith in me – I just bowl according to the conditions. I did not practice earlier, but I can bowl freely, even in the powerplay and at the end. I don’t feel any pressure, and I really enjoy wherever I get the opportunity to bowl or bat,” said Deepti at the post-match presentation.
