In the third match of the Women’s T20I Tri-Series, India defeated West Indies by 56 runs at Buffalo Park in East London.

India won the toss and elected to bat first.

In the first innings, Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur were the top scorers. Mandhana smashed an unbeaten 74 off 51 balls with the help of ten fours and 1 six, while Kaur scored 56 not out with eight fours. Together, they stitched an unbroken partnership of 115 runs for the third wicket and helped India put a strong total of 167-2 on the board in their stipulated overs.

The West Indies team tried to chase the set-target but failed to keep up with the run rate. Their top scorers were Shemaine Campbelle, who scored 47 with five fours and one six, and Hayley Matthews, who scored 34 not out with five fours. However, the Women in Maroon were only able to score 111-4 in 20 overs, falling short by 56 runs.

India all-rounder Deepti Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2/29 in her four overs. Her tight bowling helped in restricting the Windies  and contributed to the Women in Blue’s victory.

The ‘Player of the Match’ was awarded to Smriti Mandhana for her outstanding performance with the bat. This was her second consecutive match-winning knock in the tournament.

Also, this was India’s second win in the tri-series, putting them in a strong position. Kaur & Co. will look to continue their winning streak in their next match against South Africa.

Brief scores: India 167-2 in 20 overs (Smriti Mandhana 74 not out, Harmanpreet Kaur 56 not out) beat West Indies 111/4 in 20 overs (Shemaine Campbelle 47, Hayley Matthews 34 not out; Deepti Sharma 2/20) by 56 runs.
