After opting to bat first, the hosts posted a competitive 141 runs on the board for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Marizanne Kapp was the top scorer for South Africa, with 52 runs off 43 balls, including five boundaries. Captain Sune Luus also chipped in with valuable 30 runs off 26 balls.
In response, the West Indies team never really got the desired momentum in their chase, losing wickets at regular intervals. The experienced Hayley Matthews provided some resistance with her 23 runs off 35 balls at the top, but the rest of the team failed to build any meaningful partnerships.
The West Indies team could only manage 97 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their innings, falling well short of the target. Masabata Klaas was the chief destroyer for the Proteas, who wreaked havoc by taking four wickets for 21 runs in her quota of 4 overs. Her spell of 4-0-21-4 was the decisive factor in the match, and no wonder she earned the Player of the Match award.

“Want to thank the fans for coming out and supporting us. Always trying to enjoy the occasion, and it’s a nice feeling. I will do what I know best. Very pleased with the performance today,” said Masabata after the match.
Notably, South Africa lost to Team India in the series opener on Thursday (January 19) by 27 runs. With one victory each, both India and South Africa have opened their account.
