On a sunny day at Buffalo Park in East London, South Africa faced India in the opening match of Tri-Series 2023. The Proteas won the toss and chose to bowl first.

The Indian team put up a strong batting performance, led by Yastika Bhatia‘s 35 off 34 and Amanjot Kaur‘s 41 off 30, which included 7 fours. Deepti Sharma also contributed with 33 off 23 and helped the tourists finish with a total of 147/6.

In response, the hosts struggled against the top-quality Indian bowlers, with the highest score coming from skipper Sune Luus‘, who made 29 off 30. Deepti had a strong performance with the ball as well, taking 3 wickets for 30 runs. South Africa only managed to reach 120/9, giving India a 27-run victory.

This win put the touring party in a strong position in the Tri-Series, and they will look forward to continuing their winning ways in their next matches.

The Player of the Match award was given to Amanjot for her impressive 41 off 30 with the bat. After the game, Amanjot said she was extremely happy to contribute to the team’s win and revealed that Deepti calmed her nerves.

“I was very happy to contribute to the team’s win. Never thought I’d be playing like this, glad that I grabbed the chance. Was just thinking of scoring runs. She (Deepti) calmed my nerves, it’s my debut, and she guided me well. Told me to just rotate strike and bat deep,” said Amanjot in the post-match presentation.
