The contribution of legendary cricketer, MS Dhoni, towards Indian cricket lies far beyond the numbers and records accumulated, during his glorious career.
Hailing from a small town in Jharkhand to cement his place in the Indian team, in itself is a huge source of inspiration for millions of aspiring cricketers in the country.
The manner in which Dhoni carried himself on the field truly makes him one of the best ambassadors of the game. India’s women’s team’s captain, Mithali Raj‘s adulation for Dhoni is well-known in the cricketing circuit.
Recently, BCCI’s Twitter handle shared a short video of Raj paying tribute to Dhoni and his contribution to Indian cricket.
In the video dedicated to Mahi, Raj has tried to summarise the immense contribution of the recently retired cricketer, in a poetic style.
“Dhoni is an inspiration and institution himself, He literally walks the talk. He is the dream of every small-town boy who aspires to play for country and achieve it all,” Raj enunciated.
“Respect, fame and the love of people. I’ve particularly admired him for his nerves of steel, innate calm and cool visage even under difficult situations,” she added.
Further, the leading run-scorer in women’s cricket heaped praises on Dhoni’s trademark ‘helicopter shot’, which took the breath away in the cricketing fraternity, when it first took off.
“Of course his inimitable style, whether its his batting or his wicketkeeping. That helicopter shot, that’s outside any cricketing text book, is a testament to his originality, talent and his immense self-belief. There will never be another like him. MS Dhoni’s legend etched in time forever,” Raj concluded on an emotional note.
