Some bowlers vary their pace but Brisbane Heat’s ambidextrous bowler Jemma Barsby decided to switch the arm in mid-over against the Adelaide Strikers on Sunday.
The skill of bowling with both right and the left arm, Jemma has had since she was a kid.
She bowls right-arm off-spin, left-arm orthodox and bats left-handed. She can also switch-hit, such as when she reverse swept a bowler for six during at Drummoyne Oval in last season’s Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).
Her father Trevor Barsby was coach of Queensland from 2008-2010 and notched 100 Shield games for the state as an opening batsman. She has benefited from his guidance and Australia’s junior pathway structure ever since her Milo Have a Go days.
She trialled her left arm tweakers in last year’s WBBL, bowling to Ellyse Perry and other players.
