The Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai witnessed an exciting match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023. RCB won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, the decision didn’t go in their favor as the Capitals posted an enormous total of 223/2 on the board.

Shafali Verma, the Indian batting sensation, was the star of the show, smashing a brilliant 84 off just 45 deliveries, including ten fours and four sixes. She was well supported by captain Meg Lanning, who scored a classy 72 off 83 balls, hitting 14 boundaries.

The duo added 162 runs for the first wicket, putting DC in a commanding position. In the death overs, Marizanne Kapp chipped in with a quick-fire knock of 39 off 17 balls, including three fours and as many sixes, to take Capitals’ score beyond the 220-run mark.

Chasing a mammoth target of 224, RCB never really got the desired momentum and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The Challengers only managed to reach 163/8 in 20 overs, losing the match by 60 runs.

Tara Norris was the pick of the Capitals’ bowlers, bagging a brilliant five-wicket haul for just 29 runs in her quota of 4 overs.

“Credit to our openers. I was really proud of the girls that came in after the openers, they played really well. It was my first game under Meg (Lanning), hopefully I can learn a few things from her going forward,” said Kapp after the game.
