Australia won the second T20I of three-match series against Pakistan by 8 wickets at Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Thursday, January 26.

After winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bat first but their innings was cut short by the Australian bowlers as the tourists could score only 96 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Muneeba Ali top scored with 33, while Bismah Maroof made an unbeaten 29. Wrist spinner Alana King was the pick of the bowlers for Australia with 2 wickets.

In reply, the Aussies made a much better start with openers Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy providing a solid foundation. Mooney was in particularly good form and scored 46 runs off 29 balls with 6 fours and 1 six. Skipper Meg Lanning also played well and contributed 31 runs off 32 balls with 3 fours. With these two batsmen leading the way, Australia easily chased down the target in just 12.4 overs.

Mooney was declared ‘Player of the match’ for her outstanding performance with the bat. Mooney’s aggressive batting and quick runs helped Australia to reach the target in a short period of time.

Overall, it was a dominating performance by the Australian team in the 2nd T20I. They outplayed Pakistan in all departments of the game and deservedly sealed the T20I series. This win will give Lanning & Co. a lot of confidence as they head into the last game ahead of the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Brief scores: Pakistan 96/7 in 20 overs (Muneeba Ali 33, Bismah Maroof 29 not out; Alana King 2/10) lost to Australia 100-2 in 12.4 overs (Beth Mooney 46, Meg Lanning 31; Nida Dar 2/27) by 8 wickets.
