Viacom 18 on Monday bagged the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) media rights for the 2023-2027 cycle at a whopping amount Rs 951 crore. Therefore, the value of every single WIPL match will be INR 7.09 crore for the next five years.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah called it “massive” while making the announcement on Twitter.

“Congratulations @viacom18 for winning the Women’s @IPL media rights. Thank you for your faith in @BCCI and @BCCIWomen. Viacom has committed INR 951 crores which means per match value of INR 7.09 crores for next 5 years (2023-27). This is massive for Women’s Cricket,” wrote Shah.

“After pay equity, today’s bidding for media rights for Women’s IPL marks another historic mandate. It’s a big and decisive step for empowerment of women’s cricket in India, which will ensure participation of women from all ages. A new dawn indeed,” he added.

Cricketing stars across the globe also extended their best wishes to the winner of media rights and lavished praises on BCCI for the upcoming Women’s IPL.

“Today’s a day that every Indian women cricketer will remember. The #WIPL is finally taking shape. @BCCI, @JayShah and all those involved deserve huge praise. Women’s cricket will go to the next level with this global stage provided. Come on girls, it’s all yours for the taking!” tweeted India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana.

“Talk about game changer!!” wrote England pacer Kate Cross, with two clapping hands emojis.

“The Women’s IPL will be a game-changer for women’s cricket and cricket in general. This development represents a significant milestone in that regard. Looking forward to an outstanding tournament. @BCCI, @BCCIWomen, @JayShah Sir,” tweeted India batting legend Mithali Raj.
