The third day of the one-off Women’s Ashes Test turned out to be hilariously eventful for Sydney girl Ellyse Perry.
When the world no. 1 women all-rounder, Perry, was batting on 194 with only one wicket in hand, she launched England’s off-spinner Laura Marsh to the wide mid-wicket boundary and immediately started the celebration of her maiden double century.
However, fans on the boundary indicated it was a four, with replays later confirming the ball bounced before crossing the rope. Perry then once again had to put her helmet back on which she took out while celebration as her score was 198 and she again had to score those 2 important runs of her career.
In the next over, Perry made sure that she reached 200 with a powerful straight drive off Sophie Ecclestone.

Even in the post-day 3 press conference, Perry could not stop laughing while speaking about the incident. When asked about maiden 200 hundred in the press conference, she had a funny reply.
She said, “Second most embarrassing thing for me this Test.”
“It (ball) came out off the middle OK but the crowd just completely fooled me. I lost sight of it, there’s a bit of a drop off where the boundary is so I didn’t really see where it landed but the guys on the hill kind of cheered like it was six so I just went with it and it wasn’t until my theatrics finished that the umpires mentioned they were checking to see where it went for six. As I said, it was the second most embarrassing thing I have done this Test. The other one happen was when the ball hit me. Anyway, it is what it is. Whoops.”
